Very late to the party, but for several years I've found melodic black metal all too similar and all albums sounding like Dissection, etc... HOWEVER, not only I am back into it but UADA is still a layer of complexity above the main baseline and this is an old album worth having, that's a basic milestone in UADA's discography and I felt it needed to be part of my BC collection.

Pour Forest of Grief, son premier album, Old Nick décide de passer aux choses sérieuses : une pochette lugubre en nuances de gris chargée de symboles satanistes dessinée par un vrai graphiste, des thèmes mélancoliques et mortuaires à la pelle, et enfin un raw black metal médiéval. Mais pas de demi mesure chez Old Nick : les synthés ont le droit à leur quart d'heure de gloire. Accordéons, chiptune et effets en tous genres nous entraînent vers un passé ancien mais pas comme on s'y attend. Décalé !

Il y a des fantômes qui font tomber les lustres ou les bibliothèques, d'autres qui font grincer les planches... Les vibrations de l'air déclenchées par Old Nick prennent possession d'une botte — ni plus ni moins. Ce n'est pas grand-chose, me direz-vous, mais c'est suffisant quand le but de chaque piste est de mettre un bon coup de pied au cul ! Le raw black metal est moins raw mais bien plus énergique, presque rock, et riche en synthés grotesques qui font SHEBAM ! POW ! BLOP ! WIZZ ! Génial !
